FirstService Energy Appoints Kelly Dougherty As Vice President
FirstService Residential, New York City's leading property management company, announced today that Kelly Dougherty has been appointed Vice President of FirstService Energy, the firm’s energy advisory subsidiary. As Vice President, Dougherty will serve as a leader in the identification and application of energy conservation measures for FirstService Residential clients, including nearly 1,000 condominiums, co-operatives and multifamily properties across the Northeast, Florida and Chicago.
Established in 2009, FirstService Energy was formed by FirstService Residential to help board members, building owners, and property managers improve efficiency, enhance value, reduce carbon emissions, and lower operating costs for their properties. As a trusted advisor, FirstService Energy has worked with clients to achieve an overall savings of more than $25 million in energy costs, while reducing the carbon footprint of FirstService Residential’s portfolio by 15 percent.
Dougherty joined FirstService Energy in January 2016 as Director of Energy Management. In this capacity, Dougherty has worked directly with industry leaders and government agencies to keep FirstService Residential clients informed on the latest technologies, regulatory requirements, and incentive programs. In just four years, she has successfully secured more than $3 million dollars in grants from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) for FirstService Residential properties through client incentive programs.
“Kelly has been an integral part of the growth of FirstService Energy and is a key partner to numerous governmental agencies that seek her expertise on sustainable practices for residential buildings,” said Tal Eyal, President of FirstService Energy. “Her tenacity, passion for the environment, and commitment to service excellence is apparent in every project she leads and every client she works with.”
An expert on the topic of building energy reduction, Dougherty has played an important role in helping industry organizations and building owners alike grapple with the repercussions of the Climate Mobilization Act. She has participated in an advisory role for a study on Advancing Electrification in NYC with the Urban Green Council, and is currently assisting AIA’s New York chapter with developing an education program for Registered Architects on complying with NYC Local Law 97.
A sought-after speaker, Dougherty has presented at events coordinated by leading industry associations such as the Urban Green Council and REBNY. She has also spoken at the Building Energy Exchange Series on The Climate Mobilization Act, Clean Energy Connections at WNYC, NYS Energy Efficiency Data Stakeholder Forum and NESEA Building Energy NYC. Her commentary is regularly featured in the press, including The New York Times where she recently provided insight on energy-related legislation, including the implications of the recently passed Climate Mobilization Act.
“While FirstService Energy began as a value-add service we provided to our management portfolio in New York, we have expanded the platform to several other markets, and Kelly’s deep industry knowledge and strong leadership tactics have played a major role in making this national roll-out a success,” said FirstService New York President Dan Wurtzel. “For years, Kelly’s tireless devotion has helped our clients cut costs and conserve energy, and with the legislative decisions being passed in New York and other markets, these services are now more important than ever.”
Dougherty added: “In my time at FirstService, I’ve gained tremendously from the opportunity to assist a wide range of buildings — from century-old walk-ups to brand-new supertalls. In our work with owners, boards and property managers, we sometimes encounter challenges associated with energy reduction, but in nearly all cases, these challenges can be mitigated with sufficient forethought and planning. With legislative pressure to reduce emissions increasing, I’m excited to begin my new role as vice president and to continue helping properties across New York City and beyond gain compliance.”
