LAS VEGAS, Nev. (October 6, 2016):Associates of FirstService Residential, the leading community management company in Nevada, participated in the international STEPtember event organized by the Cerebral Palsy Alliance. The associates personally pledged to take 10,000 steps a day and raise money to spread awareness for people living with cerebral palsy and other disabilities.

In addition to the event, the City of Reno proclaimed the month of September as STEPtember at their most recent city council meeting. James Gibson, vice president of business development for FirstService Residential in Nevada, took part in the city’s proclamation, along with his son Beckett who was born with cerebral palsy.

Upon joining the United Cerebral Palsy Nevada Board of Trustees in March 2015, I have been actively working on bringing stronger attention to the organization and the vital services that they provide,” said Gibson. “A large part of my efforts was bringing on Argentum Partners, a local strategic PR firm, to assist in getting the City of Reno to proclaim the month of September as STEPtember and create a small movement within the City of Reno. FirstService Residential, the Reno police and fire departments, and many other local agencies, took part in spreading awareness and raising money.”

Eighty FirstService Residential associates throughout Southern and Northern Nevada collaborated to form 20 teams, donating over $3,500 and taking a combined total of over 16.5 million steps to make a difference and support the cause.

We look forward to this event every year as an opportunity to make a difference,” said Maurice Talley, corporate trainer for FirstService Residential in Nevada. “Our associates are very supportive, and each year we anticipate involving even more teams, and raising more awareness and money for this worthy cause.” FirstService Residential took sixth place in fundraising efforts and fifth place in total step count out of the 88 teams throughout America.

According to the Cerebral Palsy Alliance, 10,000 steps is the recommended daily minimum for a healthy, active person. The alliance challenged participants to take 10,000 steps a day for 28 days and track and log their steps using a pedometer or online application. All of the funds raised during “STEPtember” were donated to the Cerebral Palsy Alliance to assist with the funding of new equipment, therapy programs, research and treatments.
