Cyber Security and Your HOA, Part One: How Residents Can Prevent Attacks
If the state of Nevada considers cyber security important enough to create an office dedicated to it, shouldn’t your homeowners association (HOA) also take steps to protect sensitive information?
On June 5, 2017, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval signed legislation (Assembly Bill 471) that establishes a new Office of Cyber Defense Coordination within the Department of Public Safety. This office will be tasked with detecting, preventing and responding to cyber attacks and will serve as the hub for cybersecurity across the state. The recently enacted law will also provide $3.5 million over two years to the new office.
It’s true that your HOA doesn’t have the resources of an entire state, but there is still plenty that you can do to prevent hackers from accessing residents’ personal information and your association’s financial data.
