FirstService Residential Leads Educational Seminars at Recent WMCCAI Expo
Fairfax, Va. (March 18, 2019) – Associates from FirstService Residential, the leading property management company in North America, led educational seminars at the Washington Metropolitan Chapter of Community Associations Institute (WMCCAI) Expo Saturday, February 23, 2019. Seminars drew crowds of approximately 250 board members, community managers, vendors and other industry experts.
“It’s rewarding when our associates are called upon to impart their knowledge and wisdom to others,” said Michael Mendillo, president, FirstService Residential, “Bernie, Jan and Lenard are certainly qualified subject matters experts and industry leaders, both internally and externally.”
Bernie Guthrie, MBA, CMCA, AMS, PCAM, executive director, FirstService Residential, and Member Services Council Chair, WMCCAI, lead a panel discussion titled “Your Board Meeting: Tips, Tricks & Dealing with Difficult People.” Attendees went to a live, interactive board meeting where they learned about beginning a meeting on a positive note, handling interruptions, ensuring board members are prepared prior to the meeting and why it’s important to follow the laws related to meetings. Guthrie also lead a seminar titled “How to Make Your Community a Great Neighborhood” where attendees learned what the associations’ role is in creating a happy and welcoming environment for residents, how to achieve a ‘friendly’ reputation and how to harness the power created by making a great neighborhood.
Jan Moshinsky, CMCA, AMS, PCAM, community association manager, FirstService Residential, lead a panel discussion titled “How to Improve the Security of Your Community Using Technology.” Participants learned the steps a community can take to reduce liability, steps to take before and after a possible security breach to enhance and protect residents’ personal safety and security.
Lastly, Lenard Goldbaum, AMS, PCAM, vice president, FirstService Residential, lead a panel titled “Community Association of the Year: Best Practices.” Guests walked away armed with best ways to solicit feedback from their owners and residents using emails, monthly polls, text messaging and blog posts, as well as the community’s website and bulletin board posting.
