We spoke with Noushig Hagopian, senior vice president of FirstService Residential’s New England market, to explore how her team supports high-rise and luxury condo communities across the Greater Boston area—and what boards should be asking to ensure long-term success.

Supporting Boston’s high-rise communities with professional property management: An interview with Noushig Hagopian

Noushig is responsible for providing oversight and operational leadership to the associates throughout New England. In addition, Noushig works closely with the company’s operations teams.

Noushig is an accomplished real estate executive with extensive experience in mentoring high-performing teams, overseeing day-to-day operations of several premier buildings in Boston, and developing significant programs to meet key strategic objectives. She is a graduate of Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts and holds her CMCA® and AMS® designations.
"I’ve been in the property management industry for 19 years and with FirstService Residential for the past 3.5. I grew up in Waltham, so Boston is my home. Before stepping into my current role, I managed several high-rise buildings in Back Bay and the Seaport.  That hands-on experience helped me understand what boards and residents truly need."

What sets FirstService apart in property management in the Boston market?

"Our leadership mentality is a key differentiator. We don’t just assign a manager—we surround them with subject matter experts in engineering, finance, and compliance. That depth of support ensures our communities receive proactive guidance, not just reactive service. Our culture is built on values like accountability, transparency, and excellence, which are shown in everything we do.

One of the ways we are achieving excellence is with our newest technology,  HODA®, our Homeowner Digital Assistant. It responds to questions by text or web chat 24/7. HODA is integrated with FirstService Residential Connect and helps deliver detailed information specific to your community, such as account balances, service requests, booking amenities, and more."

What should boards be asking their current property management company?

"Boards should ask: ‘How are you preparing us for long-term success?’ That includes questions about capital planning, reserve fund investment strategies, and regulatory compliance.

They should also ask: ‘Is our manager supported by a broader team?’ and ‘Are we receiving proactive recommendations to improve operations and resident experience?’ These questions reveal whether your management partner is truly invested in your future."

How should boards prioritize short- and long-term goals?

"Start with a reserve study and a capital needs assessment. That gives you a roadmap for future projects. Then, align your budget and operations with those priorities. Short-term goals might include improving communication or enhancing amenities, while long-term goals focus on infrastructure, financial health, and sustainability. We help boards balance both."

How does FirstService support boards in fulfilling their fiduciary responsibilities?

"We provide financial transparency, timely reporting, and strategic planning tools. Our team helps boards understand their obligations and make informed decisions. We also offer investment guidance for reserve funds, ensuring they’re properly allocated and earning returns while remaining compliant with Massachusetts regulations."

What are some frequent concerns you hear from communities switching to FirstService?

"Boards often tell us their previous managers lacked support, didn’t follow up, and failed to suggest proactive initiatives. Financials were slow, and communication was inconsistent.

Boards suffer from a lack in service levels, and their expectations are not met. We address those concerns head-on with structured processes, responsive service, and a commitment to continuous improvement."

What types of communities do you serve in the Metro Boston area?

"We manage a wide range—from luxury high-rises in Back Bay and Seaport to waterfront condos in East Boston and boutique buildings in Charlestown. These include PIER 4, Twenty Two Liberty, Trinity Place, and Tremont on the Common. Each neighborhood has its own character and needs, and we tailor our approach accordingly."

How does FirstService stay ahead of regulatory changes?

"We’re actively engaged with the Community Associations Institute (CAI), which tracks legislation affecting community associations. In Massachusetts, recent discussions around reserve funding and structural inspections are prompting boards to reassess their financial strategies. Our scale and expertise allow us to guide communities through these changes with confidence."

Why scale matters in today’s regulatory climate

As Massachusetts considers new regulations around reserve studies and building safety, boards need a management partner with the resources to respond quickly and effectively. Smaller firms may struggle to keep pace, but FirstService brings the depth and agility needed to protect communities and plan for the future.
