Washington DC, May, 2014 – FirstService Residential, the leading property management company in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, hosted a high rise community association management best practice sharing roundtable in Washington, DC. The interactive two hour session was attended by Board members from numerous high rise buildings in Washington DC, as well as several FirstService Residential Executives and Community Managers. Board members represented communities currently managed by FirstService Residential, as well as properties currently managed by other firms, or self-managed. The informative session was moderated by FirstService Residential DC Metro President, Daniel Bauman.

The session was held at The Westin Georgetown and the agenda was developed based on feedback from attendees. Topics included the best practices for handling association insurance related issues by determining areas of responsibility in legal documents and developing policies and procedures for handling claims; the role clear delinquency policies and the adherence to them play in successful collection efforts, as well as opportunities to increase association leverage such as amenity use and leases; the critical need to develop specific Standard Operating Procedures custom to the building, the continual review of procedures with on-site staff and vendors, and proper inspection processes to ensure the safety of residents and protect the investment in facility assets and system components.

"I very much enjoyed the roundtable and I found it very helpful and enlightening. It's great to be able to compare notes with other condo board members and learn that your issues are not uncommon and learn how others have dealt with them,” said Frank Montero, Board Member Observatory Condominiums. “I have already had a few follow-ups with other participants to compare notes on a few topics, including elevator upgrade and replacement."

"FirstService Residential's first Board Member Roundtable for Northwest DC was a huge success," said Daniel Bauman, FirstService Residential DC Metro President. "It is incredibly rewarding for all involved when condominium and cooperative leaders from a particular neighborhood gather in this forum so that they can interact about the business of their buildings and share best practices."

FirstService Residential will continue to host community association management best practice sharing roundtables in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, including an upcoming Arlington, Virginia roundtable in May. In addition to the Washington, DC metropolitan area events, the educational best practice sharing roundtable series has been successfully held across the Mid-Atlantic region including Baltimore, Philadelphia, New Jersey, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Future events across the Mid-Atlantic region are scheduled and will focus on all facets of community association management including high rise, condominium and homeowner associations, active adult, and lifestyle. Topics are tailored to the unique needs of the association management product type and location.
