FirstService Residential, New York City's leading property management company, announced that Kelly Dougherty has joined the company as Director of Energy Management for FS Energy, the company’s energy advisory subsidiary. FS Energy’s mission is to help FirstService Residential’s portfolio of condominiums, cooperatives, and rental buildings increase efficiency while reducing energy consumption, costs and emissions.

A certified LEED Green Associate, Dougherty is an integral part of the team responsible for analyzing, customizing, and implementing effective Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) for clients. She works directly with industry leaders and government agencies to keep FirstService Residential clients informed on the latest technologies, regulatory requirements  and incentive programs.

Dougherty also develops educational seminars for FirstService Residential property managers, as well as staff that work in the company’s managed properties, to help ensure buildings are operating in the most efficient manner.

Buildings constitute 40% of energy use, 72% of electricity consumption and 38% of all carbon emissions in the US. In New York City, energy costs comprise up to 30% of an average building’s operating expenses.

“Backed by FS Energy’s extensive energy database and analytics team, our clients will benefit tremendously from having Kelly as a dedicated energy partner,” said Dan Wurtzel, president, FirstService Residential New York. “She is well-versed in all available efficiency opportunities and incentive programs, and can effectively weigh the pros and cons of each to design and implement customized energy management solutions for a property that will yield the greatest long-term value.”

FS Energy has implemented a broad array of efficiency solutions for clients. These include co-generation, lighting upgrades, advanced control systems, mechanical retrofits, chiller upgrades, sub-metering and oil to gas conversions. Solutions provide immediate and long-term cost savings, often without significant cash outlays, and are always designed to benefit the property owners by reducing operating costs, maximizing property values, and improving overall quality of life.

Dougherty has more than 12 years of experience developing long-term strategies for clients that cover sustainability strategies, infrastructure resiliency, and energy reduction planning. She is well versed in HVAC system operation, efficiency retrofits, and energy project management – skills she amassed during previous positions at Air Ideal Inc. and Insight Civil Engineering.  Dougherty is currently a candidate for a Master of Science in Sustainability Management at Columbia University.

FirstService Residential formed FS Energy in 2010 to serve as a trusted advisor to board members, building owners and property managers in order to help them make informed decisions when considering efficiency strategies. To date, FS Energy has helped FirstService Residential clients save more than $25 million in energy costs while reducing the carbon footprint of its New York City portfolio by more than 15 percent.
