(December 15, 2014, Las Vegas, NV) – Associates from FirstService Residential, the leading community management company in Nevada, delivered holiday cheer at the Magical Forest at Opportunity Village on Tuesday, December 9. Over 25 associates from their Southern Nevada offices took time out of their busy work schedules to help Opportunity Village deliver a magical and safe environment for several elementary schools in the valley, as part of their Cheyenne’s Magical School Bus Tours (CMSBT) program. FirstService Residential also sponsored a first grade class of students from Kermit Booker Elementary School, which provided them transportation, admission, a backpack of goodies, and the opportunity to meet Santa Claus.

According to Charlene Blackstone; special event and fund development manager for Opportunity Village, “That day was the best volunteer turnout I have ever had for the Cheyenne’s Magical School Bus Tours program!” Created in loving memory of a little girl named Cheyenne Kouba, the program gives children from at-risk elementary schools in the district the opportunity to experience the park and joy of the holiday season.

“Every year for the CMSBT program, we host over 5,000 children to visit the Magical Forest. Many of the children that visit have never left their neighborhoods, have never met Santa, or would never even have the opportunity to celebrate the holidays, if not for this program. We rely on generous donors to sponsor the schools to pay for the hefty price of buses and each child’s admission into the Magical Forest. Each child participates in a disability awareness dialogue and learns the importance of being kind to everyone, no matter their differences. They also, with the help of our fabulous sponsors, receive a special gift – a backpack filled with special items – at the end of their field trip,” explained Blackstone.

FirstService Residential has sponsored this program in the past and supports various charities and sponsorship opportunities throughout the year. “It is great to work for a company that cares about the community and gives back,” said Daisha Salazar, FirstService Residential associate. “I was ecstatic to be able to volunteer at the Magical Forest and can’t wait to do it again.”
