Baltimore, MD, May 21, 2014 – FirstService Residential, the leading property management company in Maryland, hosted its second high rise community association management best practice sharing roundtable in Baltimore. The interactive two hour session was attended by Board members from numerous high rise buildings in Baltimore, as well as several FirstService Residential Executives and Community Managers. Board members represented communities currently managed by FirstService Residential, as well as properties currently managed by other firms and self-managed. The informative session was moderated by FirstService Residential Maryland / Delaware President, Trent Harrison.

The session was held at 414 Water Street located in the heart of Baltimore. The 414 Water Street Condominium Association has been managed by FirstService Residential since 2007 and consists of 312 condominiums. This contemporary condominium offers residents stunning views of Baltimore, as well as access to dining, nightlife, entertainment, and cultural attractions.

The agenda was developed based on discussions with attendees and topics included the critical need to develop specific standard operating procedures (SOP’s) custom to the building, the continual review of procedures with on-site staff and vendors, and proper inspection processes to ensure the safety of residents and protect the investment in facility assets and system components. Additional topics included effective strategies for determining when the use of consultants for large scale capital projects is cost effective, justification of repairs and upgrades, and evaluating maintenance agreements, as well as uniformly enforcing rules and adhering to the Maryland Condominium Act.

“Thank you for the invitation to last night's session,” said Robert Belvins, Board Member 414 Water Street Condominium Association. “It was extremely informative and I took away several good points, some of which we can utilize here at 414 Water Street. Please keep me in mind for any future sessions.”

“FirstService Residential’s second Board Member Roundtable discussion in Baltimore was very successful. It is good to welcome new board members participation and to see returning participants as we continue the series of discussions,” said Trent Harrison. “It is incredibly rewarding for all involved when condominium leaders from a particular market gather in this forum to interact, discuss topics of interest specific to their buildings and communities, and share best practices.”

FirstService Residential will continue to host community association management best practice roundtables in Maryland and Delaware, including a third in Baltimore this June. In addition to the Maryland and Delaware events, the educational best practice sharing roundtable series has been successfully held across the Mid-Atlantic region including: the DC Metropolitan area, Philadelphia and surrounding areas, various locations throughout New Jersey, Charlotte North Carolina, and Charleston and Hilton Head South Carolina. Future events across the Mid-Atlantic region are scheduled and will focus on all facets of community association management including high rise, condominium and homeowner associations, active adult, and lifestyle properties. Topics are tailored to the unique needs of the association management product type and location.
