FirstService Residential Shared Voice of the Customer at Multifamily Summit
CHICAGO, Ill. (October 20, 2016): Robert Meyer, director of engineering for FirstService Residential, Chicagoland’s leading property management company, recently addressed Franklin Energy’s Multifamily Summit as the keynote speaker. The conference was attended by energy efficiency professionals from coast-to-coast to share multifamily best practices, ideas and opportunities. Meyer discussed the current state of energy efficiency programs and challenges within professionally managed residential properties.
Meyer shared FirstService Residential’s standard practice for managing a new property. As a partner working with the board members and shareholders, they identify short-term cost-saving opportunities and develop a long-term strategy for common elements such as mechanical equipment.
“We always strive to leverage the property’s energy audit and create an efficiency plan, maximizing savings and engaging the board and shareholders in ongoing efficiency efforts,” said Meyer. “We also work with on-site staff to train and educate them on best practices and how to keep the equipment operating at peak efficiency.”
Meyer continued to explain how one of the company’s managed properties, a condominium high-rise in the Gold Coast, conducted an energy and lighting audit through one of FirstService Residential’s vendors. By executing the audit, the association realized they were paying a substantial amount on lighting expenses. By upgrading their lighting to LED and taking advantage of utility rebates, the association will save 81% or approximately $33,000 annually in lighting costs.
