ESTERO, Fla. (Nov. 6, 2018) – FirstService Residential, the leading property management company in North America, announces its team at Tidewater by Del Webb in Estero, Fla. has become a Blue Zones Project recognized organization. The staff of Tidewater by Del Webb implemented Blue Zones Project principles after already implementing them for their residents in March of 2017 when they became the first Blue Zones Project recognized homeowner’s association in Estero.

“I couldn’t be any prouder of the hard work and dedication from the Tidewater team. We are changing how retirees enjoy life,” said Michael Mendillo, regional president, FirstService Residential. “This program exemplifies many of FirstService Residential’s core values— do what’s right, improve it and aim high.”

Tidewater by Del Webb and its team joined the Blue Zones Project to inspire residents of the 55+ community to eat healthier, live longer and embrace new experiences. Now, a year later, the management office and its staff have joined the movement. To become Blue Zones Project recognized, the office and team implemented quarterly staff luncheons featuring healthy alternatives, provided volunteer opportunities for the staff, participated in mediation classes and encouraged everyone to take the stairs.

“We started this initiative with our residents in 2016 and the response was overwhelming. It only seemed appropriate to align our staff with the mission of the community,” said Michelle Kithcart, lifestyle director, FirstService Residential.

Tidewater joins more than 190 other area companies already recognized by Blue Zones Project – Southwest Florida, a community-by-community, well-being improvement initiative designed to support longer, better lives through sustainable changes to environment, policy, and social networks. Principles are based on lifestyles in Blue Zones® areas, which are pockets of the world where people live longer with less chronic disease and higher quality of life.

Brought to Southwest Florida by NCH Healthcare System, in collaboration with Sharecare®, Inc. and Blue Zones, LLC, Blue Zones Project is a vital part of Southwest Florida’s well-being improvement initiative that encourages changes in the community that lead to healthier options.
