Atlanta, Ga. (July 25, 2018) – FirstService Residential, Georgia’s leading property management company, was honored with the Jetsetter Award for most participation in the 2018 Daylight Hour energy saving campaign by the campaign’s organizers. This marks the fourth consecutive year that FirstService Residential has lead the global business community in this effort to promote energy conservation in commercial buildings.

The global #DaylightHour campaign has been a staple of energy consumption consciousness since it was launched in 2014 by the New York City nonprofit, Building Energy Exchange. Participating companies all over the world turn off their lights for one hour to reduce energy consumption, offset the use of electrical lighting and raise awareness about the availability of daylight in commercial office spaces. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, lighting is near the top of electricity consumption in commercial buildings, especially in large office buildings where lighting energy use can be as high as 40 percent.

FirstService Residential’s participation was its highest yet, involving 70 offices in 54 cities across FirstService Residential’s U.S. and Canadian markets.

The company’s offices were among more than 820 worldwide turning off lights in a record-setting 133 million square feet of office space. If these same offices were to turn off their lights for one hour every day for a year, organizers claim it could help save more than 60 million kilowatts of electricity and $12 million in costs.

“We like to lead by example at FirstService Residential,” said Chuck Fallon, CEO, FirstService Residential. “The #DaylightHour campaign is one of the many ways that we embody our mission of making a difference, every day. This recognition not only drives home the depth of our commitment, but the positive impact it has on our communities.”

Reducing energy consumption, costs and emissions for multifamily properties in their portfolio is the focus of FirstService Residential’s energy management and advisory sister company, FS Energy. Currently serving residential properties in Florida, Georgia, New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Ontario, FS Energy has helped FirstService Residential clients save millions of dollars in energy costs while significantly reducing their carbon footprints.
