Elderly New Yorkers, Here for the Duration

While many older New Yorkers head south or west for their sunset years, a growing number of city residents are staying right where they are.  According to the NYC Department for the Aging, the city’s 60+ population increased by 12.4% between 2000 and 2010. By 2030 it is projected to grow by 35.3 percent to 1.84 million.

 

As the number of elderly New Yorkers grows, landlords, resident managers and co-op boards are looking for ways to accommodate them, including solutions for issues faced by aging residents. A recent New York Times article features several NYC property management experts, including FirstService Residential Managing Director Marni J. Berk, who also serves as general manager of Lincoln Towers on the Upper West Side.
